Detective De Luca

A Great Period Piece, An Awesome Lead Character, And Four Solid Mysteries Set in War-Torn Italy
As witnessed by the slate of popular procedural programs on network television, we can't get enough of solving crime! I really enjoy having the opportunity to sample International programs, and the hard-edged Italian mystery series "Detective De Luca" deserves to be discovered by a larger worldwide audience. Let me tell you, I loved this four part mini-series from 2008. In a mesmerizing lead performance, Alessandro Prezioni plays Commissario Achille De Luca and he is one tough cookie. Smart, savvy and super sexy, De Luca is the quintessential hard boiled detective. He acts first and asks questions later. He doesn't have time to deal with nonsense, and his uncompromising nature makes him both irresistible and immeasurably frustrating by equal turns. Truthfully, though, this description can aptly be applied to many a detective program. What really distinguishes the four mysteries presented here is the setting. Set in the tumultuous period before, during, and after World War II...

Foreign TV Mystery "Detective De Luca"
There is a lot of action in this series. It has the feel of a premium movie; with plenty of action, pretty girls, and intrigue. Many US productions have degenerated to dialogue only with no substantial filming or action; not this. Enjoyable watching but not for the lazy because you have to pay attention to keep up. I recommend Detective De Luca, the Movies (4) are in Italian with English subtitles and are well done. The action takes place during World War II and is instructive as to Italian culture, politics, and police work.

Review
Loved the period piece...great acting....excellent coverage of Italian fascism. Would like to see more Det. Deluca...hopefully some form of exoneration and promotion to "questura..
